It is often quoted that Angel fish can in height reach twice their length. As larger species can reach 6" in length you can see where the 12" came from. I would say that 8" in height is a closer average height for an Angel although it is species dependent, so I'm sure there are fish out there who are higher than this.

Right on the head as i've heard it. Altums, for example, can reach up to 18" in height.

You need a tank at least 18 inches tall to be able to properly keep and angelfish. So, I would say no.

I said they can get 12" high cuz that is what I have read online. I have also seen some angels very close to 12" high, so i'm just going by what I have heard and seen.
