Tank size: 112 litres
pH: 5 or 6
ammonia: none
nitrite: none
nitrate: probably too much
kH:0
gH:>16
tank temp: 28

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):
Angelfish gradually swelling symmetrically both sides of stomach (when looking sideways, swelling is in the middle, about the size of a large marble), looking a little podgy at base too. no other symptoms, feeding well, pooing well, same colour as usual, behavior the same. she is around 3 years i think, body size is ~2.5in

Volume and Frequency of water changes:

just moved the tank from southampton to scotland, however swelling was present beforehand. no casualties so we can't have done badly! one water change of 1/4 in two months as water so different to before. (also when we carried out plenty of water changes in our first year tank, we had lots of casualties, which stopped when we started the infrequent water change method). The fish have been happy for 21/2 years since.

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:

plenty of real plants, algae (the only problem due to the nitrate), plastic pipes, tree stumps, urn, java fern. pH used to be slightly alkaline when we first started but is quite acidic now, as water is very hard don't really want to make it worse but should i worry about this too?
Tank inhabitants:
4 very lively 2 yrs old clown loaches, 4 hatchets, 9 rummy noses, 2 angelfish + overfiltered system
Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):
scottish water? complete tank reshuffle, last fish introduced at least one year ago. (again problem noticed prior to moving)
additions:chlorine neutraliser, a dash of freindly bacteria, flake, bloodworm, alage pellets (tempted to use a nitrate remover for the algae?)

As far as I can tell from other forums, my angelfish started producing eggs but became egg bound- or has a ovarian cyst. she has been trying to clean some leaves, although haen't seen this recently. I have no idea what sex either fish is btw as no 'extensions' have been seen. I assume one is a girl and one is a boy becasue one has a domed forehead, whereas the other is fairly smooth. They seem to like each other, spending most of the day together, taking it in turns to nip each other (never injured though). Thought things would come to a conclusion in a few weeks, either with the lump subsiding or ending up killing the fish (as teh other forums have said there isn't much to do for them). however, it is a couple of months down the line- she seems fine except for looking continually "pregnant", and there is no reason to euthenize when she is acting fine. Scales are all in place, just as hungry and active as ever. None of the other fish look obese so i don't think it's overfeeding (especially as for about 3 weeks prior to moving they got fed once every 2 days as a friend (also fish keeper) fed them whilst we were already up in scotland). I feel really mean just leaving her like this- is there anything I can do?
p.s I can't really get a picture

The only thing you can do for an eggbound female is an extended fast; 4 weeks, in the hopes that the eggs will be reabsorbed by the fish. The female is no longer any good for breeding after this.

This may help with a cyst as well, as the angel's body will be looking for any form of nutrition. If it is a tumor there really is no hope, other than making the fish comfortable for the rest of its life.

A product called Clout can be tried for a cyst or tumor, with daily 50% water changes & redosing. Another product to try is Paracide-D. I had this problem with a female a couple years back. After talking with Brian at National Fish Pharmacy, (burned up some serious cell phone minutes!) he said after an autopsy it's either fluid, or parasites. He said that if it doesn't involve any internal organs surgery can be performed, but the tumors usually return, similar to a dog. Don't ask me how you would do surgery on a fish, or stitch them up afterwards.
