Hi there

Im new to this hobby. My tank is about a month old. water stats are good now. i am a bit worried about one of my angels, he seems not to be eating and is gasping at the surface. The other angel is not gasping but is not eating and hiding behind bogwood.they were only introduced to the tank 2 days ago. there adult size.can any one help me out.

Tank: 190 ltr trigon
Plants: 2 swords 2 nanos 3 vallis
2 pces Bogwood
C0 2 Injection

Ph: 7.4
Amm: 0.1
NO2: 0.0
NO3: 10.0

you tank is cycling (ammonia should be 0), angels are delicate fish, the high ammonia while cycling has caused respiratory problems which he will now have for life or possibly die from shortly.

have a read of the topic linked in my sig 'what's cycling?' which should explain more and tell you what to do.

Thanks Ill read your topic. i thought i was in the clear before i bought them as my amm was 0.0 3 days ago but maybe it wasn't fully cycled.

it will have only been cycled to cope with the amount of fish you had at the time, if you add more fish too soon you put too much strain on the filter and it starts cycling again to catch up.

angels shouldn't be added to tanks under 6 months old as they just can't handle the changing conditions, they definately should not be in a cycling tank.

Thanks for your help. ill bring them back to the lfs and get some later on.

good plan :good:

i just hope it is not too late for them adn that they recover. unfortunately you may have done them lasting damage that cannot be repaired.

I don't mean to sound too harsh but I hope you learn a lesson from this that you should always research the fish before you buy them, a small amount of searching would have shown you that angels are a bit delicate and need a mature tank
