So I used to have two angelfish, unfortunately one died 3-4 months ago, so this one is left on it's own. Although it seems perfectly happy, I was thinking about adding one or two new angels to the tank.

Is this a good idea? Is it likely to cause conflict with the current angelfish? Any experience of this would be great. Thanks.

What size tank UKSPEED? It usually spells trouble adding more Angels to an already established Angels territory.

Possibly the best way to go about it would be to remove the Angel you already have and then rearrange your tank so that it resets the territories then add the new ones. Once the have settled for an hour or so you can re-introduce yours.

You would have to source similar sized Angels though.

I'm thinking that if it's been on it's own in that tank, it may now consider it to be it's territory, and may respond aggressively to newcomers. How big is the tank?

EDIT: LOL! minnnt beat me to it!

It's a 120L, so I know it's on the limit for keeping Angels anyway. If I were to add a new one(or two), they would be young ones. The current is fully grown. It never shows aggression to other fish, but maybe it's own species it could be different.

I added 5 juvi's to an adult with no issue.

However - the addition was made when upgrading to a new tank and the Juvi's were given a couple of weeks in the bigger tank before the adult was introduced.

of the 6 - the adult is probably still the least 'feisty', with the other five often having a quick dart at each other.

personality of the fish will be the key, but having fewer to introduce (1 or 2), then the risk of fighting is magnified with a lack of numbers to disperse the aggression.

personally - I don't like to see angels in a 120L.....that's what my adult was in and one of the reasons I upgraded.

I added a new large angel to my tank which homed a single angle and he attacked the new tank mate.

At first I thought this was a sign of strength but within 24hours the new angel had died.

I was told by the staff at Pets@home that they would not be too aggressive to one another. I took the dead fish back and got a refund.

Conspecific aggression is high amongst Angels.

ZZ was adding 5 so the anger was shared out amongst all the new fish.

Marcandnic's case is probably how 90% of cases will go.

Thanks for your advice guys. I would never trust advice from pets@home. I went in my local one other day out of interest and there were three angels half dead in the tank, not a nice site at all. I think I may leave the lone angel be for now, I plan to upgrade the tank in the next 6 - 12 months so maybe I could look at adding a few more then. It's a shame, they are such nice fish with great personalities when they are not aggressive towards each other.
