Angel Fish

hiya all

i got a spare tank thats is 18 x 12 x 12 so it says its a 47 litre. i fill it to about 42 litres off water

well what im asking will 4 angel fish and about 2-4 fighters be all ok in there.

i have a 150w heater, internal filter. air pump. and the usual gravel and decor

would i need a light as my tank only got a conditsation lid so plenty off light in the room. or shall i buy a small hang over light - mini flouresent light

this is not my main tank as i have another 1 thats is a 128l fluvan, witch i have 4 discus, 20 guppies, 10 neon tetras and 2 kissing gourmias, 2 tiger barb loches. all set up and running well that is

No they won't be okay in a tank that size. Angels need about a 25 gallon minimum. Many breeders keep a pair in a 10 gallon, but they are in there solely for breeding purposes. I would reccomend something more like a pair or trio of Apistogramma for a tank that size.

And for your main tank. Discus need different requirements than the other fish that you listed. Discus need a tempature of 82*F to 84*F. The neons prefer it more at 76*F. Cardinals are a good alternative to neons for discus tank mates. I also think that tank is too small for 4 discus. I think that the reccomended minimum for discus is a 55 gallon. You could have 5 discus in a 55 gallon, but I would go with somethingmore like 4. They are very high matnience fish.

they will get stunted if they havent already and wont look their best as well

and im guessing the tiger barb loaches are clown loaches? if so i would seriously recommend you return them or risk upgrading to a much larger tank as these guys get 1ft+

Many on TFF feel that besides 29/30 US gallons, Angels need a 17 inch tank height minimum. WD

ok thank you for the advice, i think i will not get angels for my smaller tank then

also im a bit concerned now about my main tank

i thought and been told that 4 discus fish would be ok in a 128l tank. its a fair size, 18inch heigh, nearly 3 feet long, 12 inch wide.

can you post what these loaches are or a picture? some of these fellas get really big and woudlnt do well overall in your tank

as for the discus, honestly not 4 in there,more like 1-2 with 10 of the other 2 schooloing fish and a school of cories,but that wouldnt be good because discus school and therfore get stressed,and if thee guys get stressed they go downhill pretty quick.


if i were you id get a 55with 2 HOBs and have a planted discus tank to themselves, you will be able to fit about 10-13, stocking heavily of course. if the fish are still small and not imported from the wild or from germany (they take good care of their discus) then your discus should be fine water stat wise, then the upgrade can be postponed to say 6-8 months.
