First of all, hello everyone, this is my first post, although I have been lurking for a while

:)

I have a 200l tank, which came with a built in internal filter. I have recently changed it over to an external filter and left the existing box empty. In my tank I have 11 young angel fish, one of which has been missing for a couple of days. This morning I discovered the missing fish in the end compartment of this box(furthest away from the intake). The intake is a small hole (about 2p coin size) and the outflow is via a grill in the compartment the fish is in. The compartment he is in is too small for my net so I dont know how to get him out (I dont know how he got in there, or if he can get out by himself  )

any ideas anyone?

Also - is there an easy way to remove the box? It is glued to the tank (with silicon I think)

Thankyou :)

is it possible to fill it with tank water so the fish rises to the top and can get out ? silly question probably

ignore my answer, having read your post again it wouldnt work lol,

is it possible to somehow cut the outlet grill off ?

I'm always wary of my jewel filter. Creatures are always finding their way in, but not, it seems, out. I have bent nets to rescue them. Then fill the gaps with pieces of filter sponge cut to size. This may work in the short term. Long term - if you don't use it, cut the silicon with a craft knife and get it out. You may need to empty most or all of the water out. There are threads in the diy section about this.

I used to have a jewel tank with one of those filter boxes, and lost a discus, only to discover him in there about a week later(he was perfectly fine). He must have jumped up and ricocheted off the hood and into the box

. Get a wooden spoon and try and coax your angel back up the top of the box, then best to try and use your wet hand to get him out. As said by cms, best to cut it out. Or at least cover the top. Good luck
