Recently had to completely drain my tank twice due to house renovations. The filters were 'dry' for around 15 mins x 2,tank is now back in its original place but on the last couple of water tests I noticed a trace ( 0.5 ) of Ammonia reading via my API test kit which is a worry.

Tank was fishless cycled 18 months ago, never a trace of anything like this other than the usual higher than normal Nitrate levels via NO-2 levesl in tap water.

My 'normal' water changes are 40% on a weekly basis.

My tank in 45 gallon and slighty under stocked if anything.

Did a 60% water change last night.

any advice ?

todays reading :  AMM  0.25
                           NITRATE  20 ppm
                           NITRITE   0

ALL FISH HEALTHY AND SHOWING NO SIGNS OF DISTRESS BTW

There is often confusion between 0ppm and 0.25ppm, the test result needs to be viewed in natural light, otherwise a 0ppm reading has the definite green tinge of the 0.25ppm. This could be your problem.

I would do nothing but monitor. If ammonia numbers rise, take action. But I would bet you will see it all go back to "normal" pretty fast. Keep en eye on nitrites to be sure.

I've always been told if its 0.25 blank it. No test will be prefect

Will keep an eye on things, thanks for the speedy advice.
