Ammonia Spike In 2 Month Old Fully Cycled Tank Help!

oh no i meant into the filter, replace your new media or some of it at least with some mature media from another tank, stick top sponges, floss or ceramic media though, don't bother with carbon. :)

You can see how this happened, I'm afraid. Your old tank was a 22 ltr, which is roughly 5 gallons- this when fully cycled would only have been enough for a quarter or so of those 17 fish, so that would have been all the media was able to deal with. Mature media is the way to go- check us out and see if we can help!- but also, you are going to need to review your stocking soon, even a 70 ltr tank is only 19 US gallon.

yer thanks 'dwarfgourami', i actually had someone come out and have a look at the tank, turned out cos of the toxicity of the level of ammonia that only option to save fish was to strip tank down and refill and change filter media but i changed the filter media to some well established stuff that a guy at the lfs kindly gave me and added some bio booster and all is looking good so far just watching incase it goes through a mini cycle. I have actually never had overstocked probs apart from the ammonia spike but if it does flare up again i will be giving a few of the smaller tetras away.
cheers anyway :good:

You should always have a bottle of Ammo Lock or Amquel+ for emergency Ammonia situations. I prefer Amquel+ because it takes care of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate.

Yer i actually have ammo Lock here that i was using for 3 weeks to try reduce the ammonia but without success to me it seemed to give false ammonia readings due to the fact that it only locks the ammonia up it doesnt do anything else to solve the prob. Will see how it goes now that i have refilled and used mature filter media so far so good.
