Now im sure I read somwhere that there were a range of substrate, designed for planted tanks (like eco complete) but had similar propperties/looks to different eco-systems. Ive searched around but cant seem to find the amazonian style substrate anywhere?

I use it and think its amazing, almost everyone stateside regards it as the best substrate available.
It is however unsuitable for use with cory's
and youll need amazonia II if you have hard water

Why unsuitable for cories? not that id be using it for them but its worth knowing :)

Yes if you have hard water then go for amazonia II as the first one can make the water go yellowish (mine does this but I actually dont mind it and it certainly isnt bothering the fish).

With regards to cory's I have no idea why it wouldnt be any good for them? Mine are doing fine and have been in there for a couple of months now. Its not very hard so wont damage them.

Edit: btw I think its great too :) looks really good and the plants are doing really well in it.

I don't know why my self but it does say on the bag in big bold writing unsuitable for fish such a corydoras

Thanks for the inputs fella's :) always good to get experienced advice when researching!

ahhh, my bag was all in Japanese so that would be why I wouldnt have noticed it (so was all the ferts so I had to look them up online to find the dosing).

I have only used it in one tank for about 5 months so wouldnt really call that experienced :) I would recommend it though and I really think corys will be fine in there.

That's wierd. Any way you could scan the image and show us, or tell us exactly what it says. I was intrigued and tried to look that up, but couldn't dig anything up.

It would be a good thing to know.

it says on the leaflet in the bag rather than on the bag in the caution section "AQUA SOIL is not suitable for aquariums with a certain kind of fish which stirs the substrate" and I'm sure I've read mention of this meaning corydoras and plecs but I can't find the guide on setting up an ADA tank to tell me.

ahh I think this could be something to do with the substrate being very easy to crumble down into powder which if it is constantly being dug up into the water column could cause algae blooms (this is just my guess).

One thing I forgot about though is that the ADA soil can give you an ammonia spike when it is first put in so not good to use in a tank which already has livestock. Not sure the Aquasoil II has the same issue or not.

All taken into account, thanks :) (Wouldnt be keeping anything that stirs up substrate anyways so thats not a huge concern).

Thanks :good: any good anyone?
Excellent for plant growth, looks pretty good and is easy to work with. However any time I do water changes/maintenance on my 40 litre it stirs up and clouds for an hr
Imo eco complete looks better and is better as it doesn't cloud my tanks water (on an 8 gal) when doing maintenance.
