Amazon Frogbit

Hi , wondering if someone can help. I have a small portion of amazon frogbit which I want to sell , at the moment it's in my main tank which holds tanganyika cichlids , i think its spoiling the look, could I just keep it in a basin of water ? would it need to be heated ?
Sorry for such a daft question but any correspondence greatly appreciated.......
