wohoo !! just got my takashi amano book 2 ! after ordering it (2 months ago) then being wrongly shipped by sea !! its finally here ! :p hehehehe pretty book (smells like a new car!)

Cool man....

....get scanning! lol

Sounds good, how does it compare to the first? I just had the first for my birthday and found it fantastic.

Dont read it man, it make our tanks seem truely inadequate :D but good book anyhow . Bit more indepth than first 1.

Nice one Kenneth. For you interest -

Book 1 concentrates on the overall concept of the Nature Aquarium with photos of all sizes and types of layout. No fish or plant index on each photo, just tank specs. The best book out of the three IMO - you really need this to understand the whole Nature Aquarium philosophy.

Book 2 is small to medium size tanks (1-150 litre), mostly photos of the tanks and little actual writing on them. Fish and plant index for each photo.

Book 3 is large to very large tanks (180- 4950 litre), same concept as book 2.

All three books are artistic masterpieces and give me a constant source of inspiration and motivation.

The biggest disapointment is the lack of general advice Amano gives to the practical side. He is well known for this unwillingness to share his secrets. Perhaps this is part of his philosophy i.e. when you have learnt the hard way, you appreciate the end result with a deeper relish. Zen.

I'm about this close )_( from ordering those books now!

As for his secret sharing, nice philosophy. I think also a lot of it is down to not actually being able to describe some parts of it. There's something to it that's just... indescribable. You just... do it. You just... get it. Know what I mean?

Ditto!! However, after looking them up on amazon and determining that if I get one I need 1 and 2, I decided I spent enough money on my tank yesterday. I gotta make those student loans last until next semester!!!

yeah after reading the book he doesn't really share much! i decided to get book 2 over book one (first) because im more interested into smaller nano tanks rather then the big tanks :) il probably get book one next

and yes ! he doesn't share much ! almost nothing at all !! i just noticed that with smaller tanks he even exceeds what most of us put over the tank for lighting ! a similar tank to mine 2 gallons has 30 watts running over it ! and i thought 23 watts over mine was overkill already !??!! :)

Gf, i could understand why he doesnt reluctingly give away his secrets. Otherwise ppl would copy, and would nt learn for themselves. :) I wonder if they (books) are on ebay...... :p

good point ! nothing compares to learning on your own !

from what ive read on it, book 2 does sound good kenneth. does he do diagrams in it to show what the plant is in the photo? like label an area "area1" then show you the name of the plant in "area1".

the first is good too IMO as george says, it's good how he gives the tank size and lighting so you can see what each plant needs to look like his.

over a 12 gallon he had 80 watts - which put mine to shame a bit :/

xmas is coming kenneth - you'll have to drop hints that the first is needed :p

hahaha :D actually with the second book he just gives the scientific names of the plants ! and usually they aren't even complete :p even the fishes :) not all the fauna inside the tank is accounted for :)

It's worth remembering that the photos were taken about 12 to 18 years ago. Fluorescent lighting has come a long way since then.

There are inaccuracies in the livestock lists but there's a disclaimer made by the publisher in the front of the books. It is also assumed that Otocinclus affinis and Caradina japonica are in most of his tanks.
