I hear Bettas sound really fun, I'm thinking about buying a small, 5 gallon tank and keeping one, the only thing is, I also hear they are hard to look after.

Do you think I'm ready to look after a betta?

They're easy to look after. They're difficult when you try to add other tank mates because they can be very fussy about company.

If you like them, get one. I doubt you'll regret it.

i wouldnt say they are hard at all

in 5 gal you could keep 1 male betta, would need a filter and heater

do 40% water change a week, feed daily, occasional food treats dont over feed.

i think a big problem with bettas is finrot, if you keep good water quality this souldnt be a problem. i have never had any problems with my betta

good luck!

every one says bettas as a small tank freind

i had a fresh water puffer fish in a 5 gal tank and it was the most ammusement i had in a small tank great to watch and can be very out comming follow you arround

and watching them munch on snails is funny

I have been keeping bettas for over 10 years. I have kept them in one gal tanks with no filter or heater (up the room was heated with a space heater) those were my first and they lived 3-6 years. I now keep a male betta in a 5 gal heated and filtered. Only thing is they get fin rot easily so weekly water changes are a must. besides that they are very low maintenance and are very spunky. For being so little they have lots of personality.

Don't get him any tank mates They are much more fun and personable when hosed alone. They are one fish I feel truly is happiest when alone.
