Am I Overstocked?

I have Roma 90, which is 90litrre, about 24 gallons
As it says in my signature i have
10 neons
10 flame tetra
5 guppies
5 corrys
1 bristlenose
1 male fighter


The rouch inch per gallon rule i know, i've added my fish gradually and do a weekly water change. My tank doesn't look crowded and all the fish seem happy. Want to know what everyone else thinks.

Yeah I was thinking of cutting the Neons and flames down to 7 from ten, just to be safe.

And to help you grow into a fine aquarium keeper - -erase the "one inch per gallon" rule from your brain!

just picture this - A 10 inch Oscar in a 10 gallon tank. Still think the rule works??

for anything bigger than a neon this rule is 100% wrong. A 10 inch oscar puts out a LOT more waste than ten 1 inch neons

The bristle may be pushing it - IMO they should not be under 30 gallons and for most small tanks the tank owner should be able to maintain the algae with out needing a clean up fish.

Also, tetras and bettas should not be housed together - tetras are very nippy and the betta's long flowing tail can be too much to resist!

Really? I never knew that about the neons, I did read into it before I bought my Betta and the only problems really would be hip nipping the Guppies! He hasn't BTW, and the neons seem to stay away from the Betta. I will keep an eye though, thanks for telling me !
The bristlenose is just a baby, its so small! I know it will grow so maybe when he is full grown adult i may have to reconsider, aparantly they can live upto 10 years!

I'd say slightly overstocked, but I'd leave it as it is TBH

Better responses than I was expecting, I think I will leave it as it is for few months, see if any fish seem stressed or if there is too much waste etc. If so i will cut down the tetras.

considering tetras thrive in larger groups, if it were me and I needed to cut back, I would get rid off all of one type and buy a couple more of the type I planned on keeping. One BIG shoal is better than two medium shoals

Yeah i see what you mean, but the neon's give my tank colour and glow, whereas the Flame's make it look stocked and not empty. If that makes sense. I would want to keep some of each.

ok and TBH, their waste output is so low, they do not really impact your stocking. The bristlenose on the other hand does - plecs are a very messy species. So if it comes to downsizing, he may be the best to go for the better of the tank

Oh didn't know that about the bristlenose. What about guppies? Are they big waste producerS?

guppies aren't bad, but comparing small fish like neons and guppies to bristlenoses... the bigger the fish then the waste out put goes up exponentially

Ah okay. How long would it take to grow to full size? I will upload a pic of Freddy, bristlenose, to show how small he is

within a year or so....but it is always best to rehome before it becomes a problem, for the fish's sake
