Am I Overstocked ?

Ive got a 32inch long 18inch high and 12inch deep tank Aqadvisor says its 29Gal, a 200w heater and a ehiem aquaball 2010 (160L / 550lph) and a eheim pickup 2008 filter (60L / 300lph).

My fish are..

4 young guppys
4 young mollys
4 bronze corys
5 black skirt tetra
1 small young bristlenose

Ive got another tank a 10G with another eheim pickup 2008 in it so dont mind moving them the guppys are small though and they seem to have loads of space the Aqadvisor saite says its ok but i thought id get some other opinions?

I dont think you are massively overstocked but you will be soon enough with livebearers unless you have all same sex. Mollies and guppies can cross breed also i believe so if you have a female of either it is likely you will have fry soon enough.



I know I am overstocked in my tank but it is heavily planted with lots of broken up teritory and is very overfiltered so as with all things these calculators are only a guideline.

Ive got a fair few plants in my tank around 6 differant kinds and moss and whatnot too.

The guppys are really small what age do they start breeding? these are about 2-3 months old il read up about sexing them and il have to get rid of either male of female as i dont really want guppy fry.

They will be ready now really, they start breeding quite early on, I had them when I first started fishkeeping, they are known as the millions fish for a reason

Males will be brighter coloured normally in guppies, females will have a blander silver body with just colour in the tail area, not sure about mollies as I have never kept them. Some fry will survive in a comunity tank with plants in. also you are using a juwel tank right? Mine used to survive in the internal filter, have a look in there you may already have some fry

Ive got rid of the standard filter for the 2 eheims. il have so start sexing them now then i dont fancy more guppys lol.

you can tell the sex of Mollies by the shape of the fins underneath.

what would a Molly/ guppie cross look like? ( sorry, offtopic)

a molly/guppy cross generally looks like a skinnier and longer molly and usually a bit more pale, blander colored. they are also infertile
