Do You Think My Tank Is Over-Stocked? Also, Blue Green Algae?

Hi,

Firstly.. Is it overstocked?

Here are the tank specifications;

roughly L=23" x H=11.5" x D=11.5" (about 54 litres?)

Using an Eheim Pickup 2008 filter and I've started running another filter (a Hagen Fluval 1 Plus internal) until I can buy a better one.

Chemistry

Tank has been running for some time now, its running at 25.5C.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0 (I've tried to address this, which I'll come onto later)
pH about 7.5

I'm dosing AE Design AquaCarbon & AE Design AquaNourish - not sure what I think so far...

Current inhabitants

5 x Black Neon Tetra
5 x Cardinal Tetra
4 x Dwarf Rainbowfish
2 x Male Guppys
1 x Molly (donated to my tank)
2 x Flase Julii Cory
3 x Peppered Cory

My levels are still stable and all fish were added gradually over the past 6 months.

Feeding a mixture of flake, algae discs, pellet food and bloodworm (not all the time).

Would you be concerned with this many fish?

Also, I've had a small case of Blue Green Algae. I have had very low nitrates for a while now, and think this might be to do with it? I started dosing a solution I made up (potassium nitrate) a couple days ago and it seems like it's clearing?

On paper I would immediately say you are overstocked. But I think your tank looks great! I have a 98 litre and have it stocked to the level of fish that you have in your 54 litre. So in theory you have too many fish, but if your ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels remain at zero, it's kind of hard to say "you're overstocked".

One issue you might run into is that the fish might not be adult sized yet, and as your fish grow you might come to realize the bio-load is too much and ammonia and nitrite might start to go up.

Thanks, I too think it's on a fine line, and with time I may have some issues.

I may rehome the Mollie I've had donated, as I can now see why it wasn't wanted. It's an aggressive little ****. I've watched it today chasing anything that goes near it, especially my dwarf rainbow fish.

I had a death for the first time in quite a long time last night. One of my first inhabitants to the tank, a cardinal tetra. 6 months they've been going for and I don't think it's a coincidence that the Mollie has just been introduced.

Your Cory looks beautiful. They would prefer sand though, gravel is pretty tough on their barbels.

EDIT: And congrats on the stats. If they are all fully grown, your doing an awesome job keeping double zero's!

Hi,

Yeah the false julii are my favs.

They all possibly have a little bit of growing, but I don't think much. I'm planning on getting a larger filter installed in the next month or so, and hopefully that will give the tank a bit more stability.
