Can you please tell me if I'm over stocked?I have a fluval roma 125 with these fish in it:

6 Glowlight Tetras
6 Cardinal Neon Tetras
6 Peppered Corydoras
1 Yoyo loach (About 3.5 inches so far)
1 Red Tailed Shark Fish (About 3 inches)

I'm using the Fluval U3 filter and the water parameters are always perfect (no ammonia or nitrite). I have sand substrate, bogwood and quite a few live plants.

I would ideally like to get a couple more Yoyo loaches, but is it possibly in this size tank? Also, I heard that Red Tailed Shark fish can get quite territorial as they age, is this true?

Yo-Yo Loach grows to about 14-16cm in length, needs to be in groups of at least 6+, in a larger tank of at least 120 cm in length.

Red Tail Shark grows to about 10 to 12.5cm in length, not particularly good in a community tank am afraid, again need a larger tank of at least 120 cm in length. You are quite correct they can get territorial as they grow older.

If you could re-home these two species, then your tank should be fine, can add a couple more tetras I reckon then that should be stocked.

Hope that helps, sorry to be a bit negative about 2 of your tank stocking but better you know this now rather than when you have pretty major problems later on.

He is absolutely right, for sure try to rehome those 2.   There are replacement loaches for the yoyo that will fit into the smaller tank, such as dwarf chain loach, although these can be hard to find at times.   I understand that you are getting rid of your centerpiece when the yo yo and shark go, but there are other good pretty centerpiece fish that would work like a pair of badis or kribs, or just bolster your numbers in all 3 of your schools.

Thank you guys, I am aware that I would need to re-home the loach and shark fish. I do think they are both fantastic, but I want compatibility and for the fish to have a good home. I will advertise the fish on this forum and see what happens. It would be nice to have a centerpiece fish so I'll have a look into those you posted.

I do want to swap out the glowlights for a bigger school of cardinal neon tetras too, I think it will look better.

I agree fully, I have always thought the neons looked much better than than the glowlights.   You could also think about a pair of wild bettas for a centerpiece, they are very docile and do GREAT in community tanks, and are very beautiful fish, maybe Betta Rubra, Betta Albimarginata, or Betta Brownorum.  I was recently turned onto the wild bettas by another forum member who breeds them, and after having one for a week, and having done a bunch of research over the past couple of weeks, I am quite intrigued by these extremely intelligent fish!

The glowlights do seem a bit more active, but neons are definitely prettier! They look amazing, the trouble would be finding one. They definitely don't do them in my LFS.

Neon Tetras are pretty common in lots of LFS in UK!

Try Maidenhead Aquatics, they will definitely have either Neon Tetras or Cardinal tetras which is very similar.

P@H will also have one or both species as well.

Give these LFS a try and see if you can find some.

Unless of course you are speaking of Glowlight Tetras, then yes these are less common but I have seen some in some LFS.

Not the tetras, both of my local fish stores sell glowlights and neons. I'm talking about the wild bettas and other fish like that.

what you can do is take a look around your LFS, and look for all the fish that could fit the bill visually, then do a little research on the ones you find, and see if anything fits.

I do need to take a trip down there and have a look. Don't know how I am going to re-home the fish. I can't post in the classified section for some reason, is it because I don't have enough posts?

Yea I forget what the number is but there is a requirement.  Will the fish store take them back?  Generally they will do this, although they usually give you nothing in return, at least the fish will make it to another home.

Oh right ok thanks. Yeah I think P@H (Pets at Home) will take them back. They did mention about having enough space for them though. I just got back from a visit from another P@H near my work place and one of the staff mentioned that he has a Yoyo loach in a 125 litre tank, alongside a whole range of incompatible fish and said that he'd happily take my loach (I don't think so lol).
