Am I Ever Going To Get My Discus?

the new ones put me back up to 40 cos my schoolboy error meant some got sucked up by the filter and killed. this has now been rectified i have a new intake strainer which isnt broken .

just had an email back from david confirming that i can go and get my discus saturday june 5th in the morning :good:

It will be worth the wait, it nice getting a set up you really want.

yehh id definatly wait lol!

how big are these discus gunna be 4"?

im getting mine from april. and been running a thread over in simply-discus.com and they give pretty good info too.

Cant wait to see em mark!

yeah im going for 4" fish , but im suffering yet another setback now , my cardinals are dropping like flies for no apparant reason , all tests show water is immaculate , the notoriously delicate rams are positively thriving and full of colour , also they look like they could well end up as a pair , but the cardinals are dying off at an alarming rate . ive lost 9 in 2 days !!! and i just cant find the reason

Cardinals are notoriously sensitive and often die off quickly, you did the right thing in buying lots together as this helps to lessen their stress, but still they are prone to just dying for no apparent reason, sorry to hear it, but i wouldnt let it stop you getting the discus next weekend.

Ditto Minxy hun, I have had cardinals and neons in the past, just seem to drop for no reason. I have given up on them. I think because they are a "popular" fish they are bred in huge quantities just to make sales rather than quality (if that makes sence)

Sorry, not read the whole thread as internet connection is pants at the mo', however I seem to remember reading somewhere that cardinals are very sensitive and should only be added to established tanks.
I had a break and haven't been on here in ages, but last I knew you had a sev and an acara or something, so you must have had a real shuffle about to be now getting discus
I guess if your tank has been running continuously then the problems are a mystery, as I think you'd had your 100g for a while now...?

Better get reading, I seem to have missed loads, and I see minxfishy has a tiger oscar now so...

 Minx has Marks Severums too  I actually have 3 Oscars now

Mark sold his other fish off and kept the tank running with ammonia for several weeks whilst getting ready for his discus project, all levels have been stable in the tank, so it is just one of those things with the cardinals.

Aha, thanks that's cleared that one up

Sorry about your cardinals Mark, it's awful when fish die especially when there is no apparent reason. I think I considered them ages ago, but decided against them as they're so sensitive :(

3 oscars Minx! Wow :) I'm so tempted to get another for my tank, I love them

i know what the problem was now. i added another 12 cardinals to the shoal on saturday , and its these which had been dying , none dead today btw. i rang the shop to ask how long they had been in store before i got them and it had only been a couple of days. my fault i got so excited about the quality of the rams id just got i forgot to check it was literally like oh and il take 12 cardinals too . so the fact that they hadnt been in the shop long , then moved again coupled with the fact that cardinals are notoriously weak anyway explains why so many died under seemingly perfect conditions , while thee rams etc thrive.

oh well no point crying over spilled milk i guess. plus i have to take a positive from it and say that at least its nothing that will stop me ( yet again) getting my discus next saturday . it just looks like il have to get a couple of extra discus now , oh well if i must i must
