Hi, I got 4 of these on Friday, they went very pale, lost all colour and markings and have spent all the time in hiding, ,, I was very worried about them, I found out from someone else that has these fish that they had the same problem but when added to a tank with other fish in they soon coloured up and became more active, I added 3 Multis from the small tank, I have had to take back the 2 Julidochromis as my relative says they are not there sort of thing (???), so against my better judgement I added them also. What happened was amazing, within minutes the comps. were out and about and the stripes have slowly started to appear as well as the yellow in the tail and black fin. Here are e few snaps from my phone, so the quality is not great for which I apologise, just as I am writing this the "alpha male" has come right to the front of the tank and flared up at me, fins erect , , , lol
Hope you enjoy the snaps, this pic for my avatar and the one for my profile are of someone elses fish that came from the same tank so fingers crossed , watch this space. :good:

Anyone that knows how to paste these please feel free to do so as I am a massive technophobe

Wow they are really nice fish :good: are these African types and would these be suitable with malawi and other african cichlids like the congo tinanti and Johanni cichlids..or are they jus best with other shell dweller species? How big do they get?

Yeah even my cichlids were still a bit scared after my rock setup but once I bought 2 small jewel cichlids which were really comfortable and active in the tank and made the other cichlids more comfortable. They are all jus chillin now.

Think they max out at 3" with the females being much smaller, and they are slow growers. Nice display when they flare up, don't know what they would be like with Malawis, have seen a picture of them with a large Julidochromis and a group of Tropheus........ if that helps :good:

Yep thanks that does help, i have a feeling that they would be fine as my aggression level has gone down including since I have setted up my ocean rocks and added 2 jewel cichlids. There are lots of hiding places in my tank and even my dora catfish feels more comftable swimming around my cichlids, and he has grown pretty quick.

I was in LFS today, picked up some live munchies and a plant, they were setting up there new stock, they had a new display tank with lots of young cichlids, Malawi, he showed me a few other smaller tank holding cichids also, Mbuna ? not sure of the spelling, very very tempting, I have to admit if I could get a larger tank I think this is what I would go for.
Stripped down the small tank to do a quick rescape, moved the Multis back to the main tank with there olad mates and added another piece of Ocean Rock, I'm pretty sure it's overstocked (temprory) but the tank has never stopped moving, the Multis are all over the place like Danios , even the Comps are at the upper levels chasing them, I might try leave it like this for a few days see if I can get away with it, tempting though, what would I put in the smaller tank ?
