Allergy to bloodworm?

Could it be?

Happens about 10 mins after feeding.

Are the bloodworms frozen or fresh? I've heard about problems with live tubiflex worms, but not allergies.

I've heard quite a few pwoplw are allergic to them, but mostly the freeze dried kind.

Luckily they never affect me, I just don't like the smell

they are the frozn kind.

It's hard going but it's kinda like if i had an allergy to powdered baby milk. It won't stop me feeding it. Wonder if anti histamines work.....

edit, just looked at sorrells pic.... gosh glad it's not that bad poor thing. just really itchy.

Maybe try feeding with tweezers? That way you don't have to handle them directly.

I am allergic to bloodworms as well. I feed the bettas with tweezers when I feed the bloodworms. I get hives and my eyes swell. Time for Benedryl.

I'm allergic to bloodworms as well though not as bad as Sorrell. If I get them on my hands it's almost an instant red rash that itches like crazy and swells up To avoid this I usually thaw the bloodworms in a cup and then either use tweezers or a small spoon. Sometimes I am lazy though and just use my hands but then I suffer for it

Wow, I'm glad I'm not allergic to them, seeing as I cut the peices off of the block with my own cooking utensils, and hand feed them with my fingers.

RW - I admit to using one of our own knives to cut them in half but they are old and always washed after, but i couldn't imagine ever touching them urgh!

How strange is it that some little grub can spark something in so many people!

I don't really get what the big deal about touching them is (provided you're not allergic, of course). I guess I'm just so used to animals that no aspect of their care seems gross to me now. If I were allergic to them, no, I probably wouldn't touch them, but yeah, sure, fingers? Why not? Although I'd definitely suggest washing up after, allergic or not
