Did you notice abnormal gill colouration yes the colour of the fish changed ,the colour of the fish faded .

Sorry

But i have an 8 inch airstone in the aquarium

Oh....
Also fish tend to darken when suffering hypoxia, erm :S
Copy and post;
Did you see them when suffering then, if so....
Were they hanging at the surface, lying on the bottom?
Mouths hanging open?
Increased gill function?
Glazed/immobile eyes?
Poor swimming co-ordination?

If it was due to oxygen lack it may not have been caused directly through the waters oxygen (or lack of) content....
Could be related to numerous different viral, baterial, parasitic illnesses but then more often than not the little ones'd be showing bad signs, possibly a bacterial bloom.
Have the larger fish ever been through a cycling process or other form of poisoning that the smaller Labs hadn't been through?

Struggling now...

I did notice lying on the bottom and Poor swimming co-ordination

Symptoms of hypoxia...
But then again they are also associated with numerous other illnesses.
:dunno:

Erm.. no worries... don't think i helped a great deal TBH....
Keep your eyes peeled for any symptoms and please PM me if you encounter any more problems, for my education and on the mild possibility i can help.
Watch out for gill fluke in particular and make sure the water is well agitated just in case.

I'm more inclined to think it may have been hypoxia like germ suggested. You had 19 fish (grant it 12 are juvies) in a 3ft tank, it's also 20 inches tall, and with little surface movement and a high temperature, there isn't going to be a lot of oxygen, especially on the bottom where cichlids tend to stay. What is your filter's flow rate? For cichlids, on a tank your size you should have a filter rated for 250+ gph.

Cheers DTH !
Stocking and math are my weakest point.
Anyhow just to clarify, gill flukes can result in hypoxia which is my reason for mentioning it....

My filter workflow is 250 gph ,and all my small fish are alive so far
