Algae

I know algae is the scorn of tanks and i can see a little of it already in mine, being a recent convert to the hobby what are people's tactics.

I understand fish like oto's eat it, but there isn't much just the odd shadow on the glass. I know i could scrape it off but its still in there. The algae will be growing everywhere else too.

Adjust my lighting? Currently running 2 36w tubes that are on for a good 12 hours maybe time to sort the timer Thanks to Dave's mature filter i have a nice stable tank unlike the replacement Goldfish tank (so he's still slumming it.), its been double zero's from sq 1.

I'm wondering if some ghost or cherry shrimp be an option or would that be reducing my options for fish in the future.

IMHO 12 hours is a long time.however everyone's tank is different.
on average people seem to have theirs on for around 8.If you haven't got plants, you only really need the lights on when you want to watch the fish or are around.
i tend to have my lighting period in the evening when i come home from work.

I have plants, so more like 8 hours a day.
