Algae In Turtle Tank

How do y'all deal with the algae that grows on the dock, etc of the turtle tank? Do you just remove it and clean it or is there something I'm missing?
I have a few large java ferns in the water, but most any other plant I put in he eats with in a couple of days.

yep i used to have turtles, just give it a good scrub. are you using a filter on the tank?

Yeah, it's a HOB with a DIY silencer on it (it sounded like a dang waterfall until I figured out to how to quieten it!).
