Personally I like Flying Foxes. There a small algae eater and the zoom around all over the bottom of your tank ...soooo cool

Barbs? As in tiger etc? I wouldn't think so, their mouths are not the right shape. Mollies eat algae but not to the extent that you can't see it.

Siamese Algae eaters are little miracles!!! I had thread/hair algae in my 26 gallon and was recommended getting 3 SAE and now my tank is SO clean. They went to work straight away and haven't stopped. You still need to give them other foods like wafers and they like cucumber too They are adorable little fish )

By barbs do you mean SAE's or flying foxes? Amano shrimp eat just about any algae from what I've read on them

I am also referring to Tiger & Rosy barbs which are known to eat hair algae. They may not be as prolific as SAEs in algae eating but I would definitely recommend them.
