G'day All,

Wondering whether I can have algae eaters with Lake Malawi Cichlids,

Current stock in 120cm x 35cm x 45cm

3 x Red Top Zebras
3 x Yellow Labs
3x Blue Dolphins

I know that the Zebras are going to get aggressive, I didn't know this however till I got them home  . I have a friend that is willing to take them of my hands if trouble starts.

Cheers

Andrew

With only 3 being in there yea they will be aggressive but they probably won't kill each other if all of them are healthy....that is unless you get a really mean one.

To answer your main question yes you can keep any type of pleco with them....many keep bristlenose plecos with them as they are excellent algae eaters and stay on the smaller size. I've kept common plecos with malawis and they were fine but those get big and poop like crazy.

The bulldog (aka rubberlip) plecos are also excellent algae eaters and stay on the smaller side. Have kept them with other fish besides the malawis but they should be just fine if the bristlenoses are.

I wouldn't put any other type with them as I don't know what the outcome would be. Definately do not ever put any snails or shrimp in there....as I'm sure you know.

Thanks Iron Man will the bristle nose be alright wit hthe high ph mine sits somewhere beteen 7.6 and 8.0 after i add the lake salt
