The title speaks for itself lol I just wanted to know if anyone knows if this stuff works or not?

Even though I have tons of floating plants in my tank to compete with nutrients and for shade no matter what im still getting loads of brown algae growing all over my rocks and glass.so much so ill scrub all the rocks and glass then 2 days later there is loads all over again.I know im never going to get rid completly but if this stuff will help a little im willing to try

Is this a fairly new set up tank, if so, brown algae is pretty common in newly set up tanks, try reducing your lighting it may help, other than that just keep cleaning it off, it does eventually subside, its just very annoying until it does.

agreed.

Also any algaecides can also have a bad affect on plants, an domstimes you may eed to overdose it depending on how bad the problem is.

I think it has something to do with it truck, not sure on the specifics though.

is it true that 'new' tanks (not setups) cause brown algae? because of the silicone?

No, aquarium substrate are made up of silcate compounds, such as aquasoil which is made up of phyllosilicates (silica, oxygen and aluminium), these stay in the substrate for years, but you dont get diatoms for years ;) Same goes for sand, some sands contain tectosillicates.
I think it is more due to the unbalanced eco system, with low bacteria levels and possible ammonia presence. This is why some people 'seed' the substrate so that it limits diatom growth on the substrate.
