Anyone see that one commercial that talks about converting algae into Bio fuel, for a future fuel source?

Maybe we should send them some algae from our tanks!

its a good idea, a simple one too! if only 30 years ago! I still don't believe CO2 is the main cause of global warming though, methane is a bigger cause.

Using algae as a way of controlling CO2 output could work also if we had the means to cultivate it.

The fuel is carbon neutral a bit like bi-diesel

Yes, I do not believe Co2 is the main cause of global warming either. Also, my Physics teacher told me once that every time there is an lighten strike, that it replaces an X amount of the ozone layer, or "heals" it, so to speak.

There are a lot of arguments about global warming, like instead of actual global warming, that instead it may be just a climate shift.

I also agree with the climate shift theory, were still coming out of an ice age, which is one of the reasons the average temperature is rising.

Global warming is a dodgy term in my opinion, just another excuse to tax us, I can't wait until they tax us for our Co2 output from respiration.

Guys,

Please don't take this as my being snotty or anything like that -- but have you guys actually read any of the science behind global warming? The evidence really is quite conclusive. There are literally hundreds of scientific papers that makes the case behind CO2 and global warming. Sure, methane is a contributor, too as well as many other factors. But, all in all, the evidence is very string that it is man-made.

The above link is a good introduction that discusses the facts as we know them. Sure, there is a lot more to learn, but the evidence is there. Denying it won't do us any good.

I'd have to agree with Bignose. I'm no scientist, but when there is so much evidence, it's kinda hard to turn away from it. Like Bignose said, denying it does not make it go away.

I've served a couple of people (students, I'd think) at work who were trying to grow algae in order to test it's viability as use for biofuel, some pretty interesting stuff.

Though I fully believe in global warming. For the most part I believe we are one of the causes. But again I'm not fully sure. Like today in my Envri. Science class I learned we only produce about 10% of the CO2 released(as a species) and that the rest is natural. It seems so small ... 10%. But knowing how balanced biological systems can be I can understand a 10% excess building up over time. At the same time I can understand that it could be a natural process.

None the less, it really depends on how it effects us. Natural or man-made, If it continues..... the icecaps keep shrinking, countries can lose a lot of land and possibly low lying cities. Ocean currents could be disrupted, which could prove disastrous for the ecosystem. One domino knocks over another. We are all familiar with biological system. Everything is connected. Everything will feel an impact. We can't wait until this problem breaks down the door before we finally do something. Especially those(like me) who live in the US. We make a ridiculous amount of CO2 for our population. I also no reason why we shouldn't try to live more ecofriendly. The whole "Green" thing in the US, reduce your carbon foot print...ect.

As far as algae goes, it could be a fuel. If they could make it a fuel they could solve two problems at once. Algae bloom from fertilizer pollution could actually be harvested, and lessen our dependancy on oil. The next question is if the auto industry would support it. The car industry in the US is foundering. In truth I could care less..... I won't go into detail but I dislike US cars alot for many reasons :grr: .

That's why I drive an Import!

Pic of my car in my Avatar!

I agree, Global warmer, if it is happening, which it probably is, is not caused entirely by CO2. There are other factors that contribute to the depleting ozone layer.

dont be hatin on the methane it makes wonderfully crashfull layers of fog in the winter lmao i agree with you both infact climate shift is as normal as you usin the bathroom but nah i havent seen the commercials yet

and neither will blindly beleving manipulated facts

have a read of this http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100017393/climategate-the-final-nail-in-the-coffin-of-anthropogenic-global-warming/

i found it quite interesting reading...

Sorry Attilauk, there is a big difference between peer reviewed scientific publications and conspiracy theory blogs. The conspiracy theory blog needs no basis in fact to be believed, it merely needs to make assertions, unsupported by anything, which the blog certainly does. A peer reviewed paper needs to actually have supporting facts that the reviewers can agree bears on the subject at hand and is not just random ramblings. I will continue to put more faith in scientific papers published after a peer review than in blogs published but bloggers, no matter how popular blogs have become these days.
