Algae And Real Plants

Whats age got to do with it ? Did I spill your pint of something ? lets draw a line under this and get on with our lives...

Yes plants do help reduce the amount of algae in the tank by taking up excess nutrients and starving the algae of their food source.

The flip side is that some plants are more difficult to care for then others. The links provided already give great advice so I won't go into it again. If you get the right plants for your lighting/fertilising conditions they are very easy to look after and help a great deal with tank health in general. Floating plants and other plants that take nutrients from the water column rather than from their roots are best for this kind of application.

hilarious the best thread I have read for a long tie. Thank you for the entertainment :good:

But if you have so many plant's that it's noticeably increasing the oxygen level, they will be decreasing it at night :X .
