I'm under the impression that true albino bettas are pretty rare.

On my last trip to petsmart, i was getting some water test strips.... but i always venture over to the bettas just in case i need to come up with an irrational reason to spend money. :p

surprisingly, on my last trip, there was a red eyed, white bodied, opaque finned betta. he was very young..... i took note of him (ehhem..... obsessed about him). my gf convinced me i didnt need another fish. 2 days later i ventured back there with a subconscious intent to buy him..... he was gone :(

are there different "blonde" betta variations that i am not aware of? or did a local betta breeder not realize the rarity of the fish, and in turn sold/gave it to petsmart? or am i too into albino bettas? :p

Albinos, blacks and whites seem to be the most rare. I work at Petsmart and I look for these ones every time we get a shipment in. Usually we don't get them in, but I have seen yellow ones, we've had 1 black one before (a crowntail, I bought it the day it came in), but never seen any albinos or whites.

The people we get the fish from don't give a hoot about the color of the fish, they just know that we pay them for them, so they box 'em up and ship 'em to us.

Oh it is ^_^ Doesn't matter if I have no spare tanks, if I see a nice betta there (rarer coloration) I'll grab it along with a new tank :D

Well Ive seen white bettas at the Petsmart I go to, but never an actual albino w/ red eyes. Wow.... that must've been one gorgeous boy!

The one I go to gets a good bit of variety in colors though so maybe one day I will see one :)
Right now, they seem to get alot of peach colored ones along with the usual blues and reds and purples.
I have seen a really really dark CT male before though. Almost black but not quite.

Oh and b/c you mentioned it, you should be getting liquid water tests. Test strips are crap and do not give you accurate readings.

thank you for the advice.

and i will be kicking myself now... because i was 90% sure it was an albino betta at the time. i decided to question the likelihood of an albino being in petsmart and decided to research/inquire...... obviously someone besides me picked up on the opportunity :(

i had even come up with a few original names for the guy. :(

shame you didnt get him, because no matter what tail type he was he wouldve been excellent to cross into, a true young albino betta would rock the betta world in regards to its value, i wouldnt like to say how much it would fetch or its fry if some of them were true as well, but i would pay upto £300 for a true albino if that gives you any idea. possible more if i had the money
