I'd been wanting to get a betta for quite a while, and finally broke down and bought one the other day. I named him Aka'ula which is Hawaiian for "Red Sunset", because he's currently black, indigo, and deep red. We'll have to see how much he changes colors though eh? Brought him home yesterday, and he was already building a bubble nest today! Although I do feel bad because I had to ruin it...they are calling for a heat wave so I had to put a screen top over his tank so the fan could blow over the surface to keep the temperature down, which of course pops all the little bubbles. Took a few pictures, but my camera battery died so I'll have to upload them a bit later.
*Edit*
The flash really got the iridescence of the blue going so it looks quite a bit brighter than it is:

Unfortunately a little blurry, but you can really see why he reminds me of a sunset in this one:

Quite excited since he's my first betta. The PetSmart in town keeps their bettas in a long barrack system strip with a constant drip line so they usually don't look quite as unhealthy as the ones in other places, although the volume of the barrack cells aren't any bigger than the standard betta cup so most do look rather depressed. I'd been looking every week to see if one caught my eye, and finally when I saw this little guy I knew I wanted to take him home.
