I am going to be flying to my other home soon and want to take some fry I've bred.

Since 9/11 airport security is very tight. Does anyone know if the airport x rays will hurt the guppies.

Yes they should let you take them around the X rays, but don't seal the lid until afterwards otherwise you will just have to unpackage the box i presume you are using? Also they should be taken as hand luggage (quite obviously), perhaps on your lap for the flight, I'd recommend one of those "freezer boxes" made of polystyrene and then put the bag inside that so it keeps warm and try not to open it too much. I don't know how long the flight is but they will not need that much water but a lot of air (especially since your air will not be pure O2 like fish stores). So really a minimal amount of water maybe 1/4 of the bag the rest air. Seal over the corners of the bag with cellotape so the fish don't get stuck and die (ie so its rounded at the bottom).

Thanks William & Crimson

I have contacted the dept of environment people at Heathrow and asked what paperwork if any is required to get the fish around the Xrays. I'm still waiting for a reply. I will take them in snap shut cylindrical rigid containers, one each for the males and one each for each pair of females. There will be plenty of air if I only fill them 1/4 full.

The containers will fit into an insulated rigid bag that I can carry on. I will stuff any spaces with polystyrene chips.

The flight is only 3 hours and the whole journey in the transport should be only just over 5 hours door to door.

I contacted a member club of the IFGA and they couldnt help with xray rules but did advise me not to feed the guppies for a couple of days prior to the flight to minimise excreta.

I am hoping to use these guppies to start a strain that I can show .:hooray:

thanks for the advise guys
