Air Stones

Not really necessary and you will need a gang valve to turn the flow down, though why do you want one for a tank that small, can't really put anything in it?

If your asking can you have one yes you can, just get a gang valve to turn it down or else it will create a huge current in the tank.

i live in a dorm. i don't really have the room or money for a huge tank with lots of fish. but i want to take very good care of the ones i have. also, the tank is bigger than that. i have a 5 gallon tank, my roommate has the smaller one.

Ok well no you really don't need one, unless you like it but it might make noise as mine does when I turn the flow down. May I ask what you plan on putting in the tank or what is in it?

i have 3 mollies, and some plants. i just need something to circulate the air better, and it's hard to find a filter that will work, because it's a round bowl tank.

Hey,

The air stone doesnt actually provide the dissolved oxygen, it just stirs the surface which in turn improves gas exchange, meaning there is more oxygen in the water.

Bowls are not great because the surface area to volume ratio is low, meaning less gas exchange is possible. In your situation if you cannot find a filter (you may find a small HOB style external would fit, perhaps with the aid of some gaff tape to hold it on....), then an airstone will provide the surface movement needed.

Or if you are buying an air pump anyway then perhaps a sponge filter would fit in

You should consider a larger tank. Three potentially 3 inch fish in a 2 gallon tank is "slightly" crowded.

yea, i'm going out today to buy a larger tank. that way i can also get a filter that will fit right.

It just give some oxygen for the fish but it isnt necessary if u have a filter in the tank.
