Air Stone

I would like to know how many people on this forum have air stones in there fish tanks

I currently have one and I have sand substrate I just don't like the noise my air pump makes

Any one else pin three air stone I just want to know because I want to know if I should take it out or keep using it what help is it for a tank

I have a long air stone that goes across half the tank at the back and the fish seem to love it, especially my fighter fish

I have one, I like the look of them. I was advised to get one for more aeration even though I have 2 filters creating disturbance to the water but my guppies used to swim around the top gasping for air.
My pump is very quiet. Getting the stone to stay (it's the fluval 2 inch long) was a nightmare, it's under pebbles and on a large bit of slate to stop the sand flying around!
The fish love swimming through it. Just like Brendans post-my fighter esp loves it. It's so funny watching him swim through the bubbles! The cories sit with their tails on the bubbles

I dont bother with my air pump any more. For oxygenation purposes, I use my filter outlets to ripple the the surface of the water. Plants may not appreciate the addition of too much oxygen as is it CO2 which they need to survive. I suppose it all depends on the setup though.

Edit: The only time I have used it recently is when I added Melafix for an infected blister on my Severum.

Well I have an aqueon filter for 70 gallon tank and I have a 55 gallon I just want to know how many people have it my fish don't bother I just have it because my lfs said it was necessary and I read that thing on this forum but it made no sense to me

Oh no I had them way before the fighter, but they kept dying for no apparent reason so I don't have them anymore.
You can't keep them together due to the big fancy tails on the guppies-the fighter could mistake them for another male. Just got the male fighter, platy, tetras and corys! He is very laid back goes straight for the bubbles and all you see is fins and tails flying around-it shouldn't be funny but it is and he keeps going back and doing it again and again lol

I thought it would be necessary for my fish, but after speaking to my LFS they said it was more for effect rather than being necessary, also it used to make a loud vibrating sound in my tank, the LFS said that as long as there was water being circulated that an airstone isn't needed. Thought that was good advice rather than trying to sell me a pump/tubing airstone etc.

As far as I know plants dislike the extra water movement!

Plants benefit from water movement since the nutrients will be distributed through the tank.

but you can achieve the water flow with powerheads or your filter....so it still leaves the airstone as optional.
