Air Between Water And Lid

Is there a minimum air space Air Between Water and Lid that you need in a betta tank so it can breath properly.

I'd say give it a good 3cm's, if there are vents in the lid it would be better. I open my tank's lid p about 9 times a day to let fresher air in but that is just me x

I don't know if there is a minimum amount of air. I personally have fresh air at all times, the female betta is in a large probably 3/4gallon critter keeper, which has the vented top, and the male is in a 30gallon with fresh air coming from where the filter piece was popped out.
