one of my praecox rainbows got her eyes sucked out! i think its my new otos, cause there was nothing else wrong with the body!

my question is why did my most likely otos do this? will they do it again? ther is still unfortunatley alot of algae remaining so they coudnt have been hungary.

the other suspect is the male praecox, he has been trying to mate with her for about a week so maybe he got fed up?

please help!

Is she dead? If so the other fish (any other inhabitants) will have see her as a food source. It is actually quite unlikely to be the otos.

no she was alive and IMO a little sluggish when i went downstairsto eat dinner, 30 minutes later i go back up to look at them to say goodnight and shes dead! only her eyes were gone, and there were no remnants what so ever, it looked like surgery. she is my first death after being educated in this hobby and im deeply unsettled.

It is likely her eyes were eaten after her death, fish are gross when it comes to cannibalism and show no shame in sadly munching on former tank mates, the eyes are usually the first to go. It is likely you will never know how she died sometimes fish do just go and theres nothing we can do, i lost 2 beloved bettas that way.

its okay, too bad she had to go at christmas eve, i went up to check on them at 12:00am too
