Aggressive Glofish

I have 2 glofish in a 10 gallon tank with 2 harlequin rasboras and 5 neon tetras. My red glofish is picking on the green one and won't let him eat. The red fish is fine with the others. The tank has a log, fake bamboo, and fake coral in it. The green fish hides in the bamboo most of the time. The red fish is fat and the green one is skinny because he is getting chased away from his food. Should I separate the glofish? I have a 1.5 gallon tank that one can go in. Or I could move one to my 10 gallon platy tank. What do you suggest I do?

What you need is more glofish (or normal zebra danios). They're a shoaling fish and are well known for being nippy and aggressive when not kept in appropriate numbers; in this case at least six.

Will 4 more overstock my tank? I can get them next payday. Do they have to be glofish or can I just get zebras?

You could also put the food in the tank in larger amounts. Then the red fish won't be able to steal food from the green one because there will be too much to drive him away from at one time. Or put the food in opposite ends of the tank at the same time.

get regular zebras if you get glos you will keep the demand for these color injected fish

Glofish haven't been injected to get those colours. They are zebra danios that had a jellyfish gene inserted into the egg. Rather than being dyed, they are genetically modified which is why they are illegal to sell in the UK. And am I right in thinking GM organisms are also banned in California?

I added 6 zebra danios this afternoon. I was going to get more glofish, but they are $7.99 each! Zebra danios are only $0.59. The aggression has seemed to stop. They are all chasing each other around the tank. At least the little green fish can finally have some peace. I will see how feeding time goes in the morning.

I lost 1 danio last night. but feeding time went well this morning. I think red was more focused on eating before the others ate it all
