Aggressive Chinese Algae Eater Help

i've recently got a pleco but have just found out its a Chinese algae eater its about 10 cm and its in my community tank with goldfish,barbs and turtles.we'e notice it latching on to other fish and barging them but only realized what this is,so how long can i leave it in with them until i can find an alternate home for him ? thanks

I would rehome it as soon as possible; it's very bad for the other fish to have their slime coat sucked off, and will leave them open to all sorts of infections and stress related diseases.

No, it won't harm the turtles; they don't have a slime coat, so they're not at risk.

similar happened to mine got 4 inches and started attacking the catfish like and so i rehome him and wiat before that he acuulllay forced a catfish to swim in the middle level of the tankit was so bad and i rehome him and got 4 dollars buzz 'n' b's pet shop and aquarim store crdit and i do miss click the cae but not his and later on bought 3 otos cute little guys they are

Man I hate them Chinese algae eaters they are so aggressive. I used to keep one in with my musk turtles he did a great job of keeping them clean. But they suck mixing with other fish

I have a 5 inch chinese algea eater myself. I am trying to find a home for him. As I am finding my pandy cory's fins are a little torn and chewed. If I don't find a home for him soon I will have to release him in my friends indoor goldfish pond. which is about 1000 gallons. My LFS don't want anything to do with him. So I may have no choice. I have had him for a couple of years, had him given to me. So I gave in. I knew they were aggressive, so was just keeping a eye on him. It is time for me to rehome.....

hi thanks for all the info,he's in a 15 gallon tank at the moment so hopefully he can stay in there for a bit my pet shops said try a zoo and the zoo said no way he's too aggressive so it looks like i gonna have to get a new tank thanks does anyone know the care requirements of these like something i should know that they don't usually tell you ?? thanks

No, they're a very easy fish to look after; just bear in mind they grow to around a foot long

I have to say that CAE are one of the very few fish I actively dislike; silly of me, I know, but I just can't stand them. Them and mollies

mm i know what you mean i'm disliking them more and more would a 3ft by 12" by 12" tank do him for life just because of space isssues

No, you'd need at least a four foot tank, I'm afraid.

Yeah, you'll want what I call a 'large' four foot; that's one that's 15"x18", rather than the standard 12"x15" though, it will end up not being able to turn around properly.

yeah it was in that size before i had too move it ill try to get as wide as possible but the issue is weight as my room has a double bed in, a large wardrobe ,a large 4 ft fish tank and lots of eletricals so its finding space or a place that can hold that kind of weight is very hard indeed,do you hae any idea of the groth rate ?? as in say in six months it should of grown 2 " for an example thanks
