Aggressive Betta......... The Snail Came Off Worse!

well, just did a water change on his tank and he did the funniest thing. a snail was floating on the top and he was looking at it, tilting his head and that, as they do. i said, nah, you wont eat him, he is your buddy......... he promptly looked at me, grabbed the snail by its head and shook it vigourously like a dog with a chew toy. he ripped it from its shell, then looked me straight in the eye, chewed it in a very smug way, swallowed, and swam off.............. i just sat there in disbelief. he cracked me up and shocked me cos i hadnt seen him do it before. so funny!!!!!!! poor snail tehe!!!

tank is 10G. the snail was only a baby pond snail. im a vegetarian and hate anything like that usually but it was just the cheeky look on his face when he did it that made me laugh. i read somewhere that only fish that would eat snails in their natural habitat have the knowledge to remove the shells...... do bettas?
i actually quite like my pond snails so here is a little RIP for the little guy.

one of my pretty fishes from Jo ate snails, but shell as well. I was watching him one day and he ate the lot he died a few days later!
I got 3 GALS I dont think they could manage them!

my betta Chi had a vendetta against red ramshorn snails, he would pick them up and throw them across the tank!
you'd look over and see a peeved Chi and a flying snail haha.
oddly, he never touched the brown ramshorn snails

poor pond snail haha, but at least the betta had a nice meal

Same here! anything dieing sucks since I know that's not how I would like to die xD But, I'd rather have a snail die then one of my fish.

ok, so having no snails small enough to eat he has now started a vendetta against his little bristlenose buddy. he has decided he hates her,flares at her and chases her round the tank. she tried to beat him away with her tail but he wins. he is a proper bully!!!
