Wednesday Night: Well for the second time in my life i forgot to plug the heater back in after a water change. Now my community tank has been hit with a range of diseases.
Thursday: I woke up in the morning and realised what i had done, the temp had dropped by around 8F (from 80 to 72), i set the temp to raise by 3F whilst i was at work, when i got back i noticed some flicking, before i went to bed i set it to raise another 2F through the night.
Friday: In the morning even more flicking and my parrot fish was acting really wierd. When i got home pretty much all my fish were flicking but had no visable signs of disease, i decided to start treating with Myxazin, before i went to bed, i gave the first dose and raised the temp back up to 1F above its original 80F.
Saturday: No changes, 2nd dose.
Sunday: Seemed to be less flicking, Parrot fish still acting strange, 3rd dose.
Monday: Didnt notice any flicking at all, parrot fish acting more normal, 4th dose.
Tuesday: Platies and corys started to flick again, 1 platy has what looks like the start of cotton mouth, 5th dose.
Wednesday: Just checked this morning and the cotton mouth hasn't got any worse or better but my poor male betta has a infected eye, the lights were off so i couldn't get a great look, its either catarax or pop eye (its cloudy and pertruding a bit) - I'm really hopeing this isn't been caused by TB (worrying note: Since this outbreak i have had a itchy eye and it feels like there is constantly something stuck in the side of it
).
Now i know pop eye and catarax are very hard to treat and TB is only treatable by injection (which means i would have to put him down), Myxazin clearly isn't doing much. Any Ideas???
Could this all be caused by the stress of a sudden temp drop? 4 days before my mistake i bought a pair of juvenile Blue Rams, the only other possibility is they are carrying some diseases - if so they are immune because they are thriving at the moment.
Temp: 81F
PH: Steady at 7.3
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: <0.3 - (probably 0 but impossible to tell with my test kit)
Nitrate: 20
24 hour aeiration
Feeding: mixed diet of. Tetra Min, Tetra Crisps, Tetra pro (red, green and yellow), Algae wafers, sinking pellets, frozen bloodworms, daphnia and tubilflex, greens (peas, lettuce, cucumber and courgette) and live daphnia. I feed twice a day and I never feed more than they can eat in a few minutes.
NB# I won't be able to get pics of the Betta until i get home (7pm-ish)
Any help and opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Jonny.
