does anyone know if i could set up a community tank with a betta and an African dwarf frog.
what other fish are compatible and won't eat or pick on my frog.

They do best in species only tanks due to the fact that they are nearly blind and have to sniff out food.

It has been done with bettas, but it also depends largely on the tank set up and the personality of the betta. You will also need to pick up plastic tweezers or a turkey baster to feed the frog directly.

They also need different types of food - frogs cannot eat fish flakes and the betta will ignore the frog pellets.

Best to just give the frog it's own tank with a few more frogs for company. A 10 gallon can house 5-6 frogs nicely and they are much more fun to keep in a group and watch their antics!

My last betta loved Zoo Med frog pellets. I had to make a 'thing' from a terracotta plant pot, carefully shaped so the frogs could get inside but the betta couldn't. Then I had to separate them when the frogs mistook the betta for food and bit his tail.

I would never keep frogs and a betta together again.

It is possible, but I'd aim for a ten gallon or larger. Do keep in mind that ADFs are very, very messy frogs. Just a heads up. ;)

Odd have to disagree with the species only tank due to feeding... I have two adf in our quite heavily, greedily stocked community tank... They are thriving :) they seem to be living off a mixture of flake that floats past them, catfish pellets (the ones with shrimp etc in them) and soft pleco pellets... They also get frozen blood worm once a week, which gets put right next to them while everyone else is busy eating at the surface. Nice rounded bellies and growing well. They are lovely to watch and are really funny little things :)

Just saying don't be put off by the feeding aspect :)

It was my betta that was the problem. Bettas are such pigs when it comes to food and this one was no exception. He ate everything I put in the tank before the frogs had chance to find it. And he did his best to sqeeze through the holes in the plant pot. I did find him in there once, he got in but couldn't get out again.
