My question is as follows.

I have a 55 gallon tank with angels and gouramis. they are happy and content and all is right in their world (or tank if you will). A few months back we decided to buy a combtail gourami without doing research (duuuuuumb! i know) alas, he immediately started trying to kill anyone he could get ahold of (dwarfs, etc..). We pulled him and stuck him in a 5 gallon alone for now.

fast forward.....

I have a 30 gallon cichlid tank setup (for about 2 months now). It is african and consist of a acei, redstripe, johanni, sunshine peacock, and a red jeweled. Within the next few weeks i will be up grading them to a 70 gallon. Right now they are about 2.5 to maybe 3 inches long. Still pretty young really.

Im curious, as hardcore as the cichlids seem to be, would they be able to go head to head with this jerk of a combtail, or his he going to smack them around. What about in a few more months when the cichlids are bigger?

Essentially, im looking at if there is ever a point i could add the combtail, or if they are better left seperated.

Thanks all

Hi the cichlids would kill the gourami more than likely. i would return him back to you LFS if posable.

Yeah take him back. It is only going to cause you to lose fish either way. I would say the malawi will come out the winners as there are more of them.
