im moving an african.. its been sitting in a bucket getting used to the new water..

its mouth is stuck wide open, and its gills are very red..

im wondering if its choking on something?

it was fine 20 minutes ago when i put it in the bucket... now its lying on its side with its mouth wide open and very red gills..

anyone have any ides?

if it is choking what can i do?

gah this is a bummeR!

See if there something stuck in the mouth sterlise some tweezers.

I already looked in there and I cant see anything..

it's stomach does look a little fat though..

I wonder if it swallowed a rock..

Is there anything I can put in the water to try to force it out or something?

This sucks! poor female is gonna die and the male is gonna be all alone :(

Can you feel the tummy to see of it feels hard.
She dosn't sound good bless her.
Open mouths can be something stuck in the mouth, sores and ulcers.
When did the red gills appear red, fish can spit and have red gills with an open mouth with gill flukes.

I can feel the rock.. I was massaging it's stomach seeing if I could get it out but I don't think I can..

it's definitely in her stomach..

I really don't know what to do.. I don't see any way I can get it out of her without her dying..

If i try to force it out I might squish her stomach.... it's bigger then her ''butt'' so forcing it out might kill her that way too.. and I don't think there's any way it's coming out her mouth..

This sucks.. she's still moving her fins.. so I mean I don't want to just kill her..

Maybe I'll just squeeze her stomach and try to massage it out some more..

I don't have any epsom salts .this sucks

Bless her i know highter temps makes them pass things easier.
Sounds like the rock is pressing on her swimbladder.
I would do the salt bath if she swelled up to draw the fluids out.
To be honest it's not looking promising.
Her breathing gone as well.

Just normal house hold salt will be fine.

If you can push the rock down, maybe try some vasaline rub it into the anus sound gross i know.

I'll try some aquarium salt... she's still fighting.. breathing and moving her funs..so I'm not going to kill her..

She's in a bucket right now with an air pump.. I tried to massage her stomach and some goo came out..

The rock is about 1/2 the size of her whole stomach though, I don't see it coming out on it's own..

and I don't think any magical surgery I could perform would save it..

The weird thing is, I saw the 2 rocks in the bucket, and I was about to take them out, but I decided they could just go into the new tank with the fish.. it's amazing the consequences a little decision like that would have.

Sorry bless her don't know what else to suggest.
Its funny they remove fish swim bladder and place them with stones, if a goldfish has a swim bladder problem.

Good luck vancouver wish I could help more, but to be honest never had a case like it before.

How is she?

Blimey, you're not having much luck at the moment are you, especially after what happened to your poor Festivum

Fish dont have tummies, just a long tube straight to the butt. Im sure if you were careful you could slowly push it back to her mouth.

Thats what I thought off after going off line maybe better to push it up to the mouth again.
Did she make it.
