Advice On Emptiness Please?

If he insists on getting something i would say platy, but i would be concerned it would tip the balance by triggering aggression in somebody or something, you know, with the bright colour and all.

I agree. It sounds like this is what he wants for his tank so I'm just trying to figure out the best way to accomplish that while acknowledging to him adding more isn't best practice. Which fish do you think would be best?

Probably a platy, i would not recommend neons as they are usually small in the shops and unless you keep the angels with neons from a young age they will see them as food, i do believe neons are part of an angels natural diet so i don't fully understand why keeping them from a young age helps at all. There is also the fact neons (and other tetras) have the potential for nipping if insecure or in a badly kept shoal.

About that temperament changing as they age thing. My angel was a real pushover when i added him but now, a few months on, he is beginning to chase all of his tank mates if they step out of line; if they themselves were not pushovers it would be a bloodbath. My guess would be that being cichlids, there is a good chance neither of your angels or your bolivian ram will back down, seeing how it is a small territory to keep all three in there is also a good chance one will have nowhere to run.

The least risky addition at this minute would probably be a platy, try to get a fully grown one if you really want to go ahead with it.

Well flapperjack, that's two votes for a platy as the best fit. Let us know how it goes please!

I had two angels in a Roma 125 for about six months. It was never supposed to be long term but I thought it would take longer than that before they started to fight, quite brutally, and had to be put into separate tanks. Yours may get on great now, but it might not last. that's all I'm saying.

They get on fine with platies, though. Platies are great for brightening things up :)

I would up your Kuhli loach number to 6, then add maybe 2 more Bol. Rams, if that's the route you want to go down :)

But yeah, as much as I hate saying this because I didn't like hearing it myself, you could do with one or 2 fish going. E.g, get rid of the angels for store credit at your local shop, then buy a shoal of cardinals or something :D I had about 40 in my Discus tank, they look beautiful in large numbers.

I would definitely not get 2 more Bolivian Rams, not only is there the high chance of territorial aggression but there is also a chance of two pairing up and the third being singled out and attacked.

Can you upload a picture of your aquarium. From your discretion I would add some plants and Kuhli loaches and get rid of the frogs. The frog will end up eating lots of your smaller fish.
