Advice Needed Please

Obviously if you can rehome them all in one lot that would be much much better.

But please refer to the second list I gave (of fish that need re-homing), as I put them in order of urgency.

Thanx Stacey - appreciate your help
Anyone around Worksop Notts sheffield area got any space ???????

Post on the 'Livestock' section of the Classifieds board on here (right down at the bottom). Otherwise, your LFS will no doubt give you store credit for the fish, if they have space to put them in...

Agree with everything that has been said above.

I'm very surprised they have all lived to be honest, for example, the Oscar needs a 75 gallon tank for just itself and no other tank mates and even then it would require double filtration.

I hope you manage to rehome them to a good place, if I could afford a bigger tank then I'd have taken the Oscar but a bit skint at the min lol, ###### creditcrunch

Ok
major trade in at the LFS
Now left with the Angel fish , talking catfish and the carp (until ID can be clarified)
Bit of a bummer to give the others to the LFS for a whole £12 credit
But on the bright side they will all live better lives now and have room to swim
I am leaving the tank now to find its levels again and will then get on with the project of redesigning it :good:
Anybody got any ideas ?? :good:
I want it as a feature tank in my dining room and I am open to suggestion.
Many thanx to all for your help today :good:

Good on you!

I know its a bit of a bummer that you only got £12 but al least you have the nice feeling that the fish will hopefully lead a happier life in a nice big tank :)

Personally I think a tank looks better with just a few varieties of fish rather than a big mismatch of loads of different ones.

If it was my tank I would go:

1/2 Angel fish, how many you got? You have to be careful as they can get aggressive if they pair off, although if they have been in the tank a while I'm sure the problem would have arisen by now

A nice big shoal of small fish, cant have neons or most tetras as the angel fish will eat them, I think harlequins are fin e as they have a different body shape, somebody sohlud be able to confirm this.

Some bottom feeders, probaby a nice big group of cories and a plec (one small enough for the tank such as a bristlenose)

So my stocking would be:

1/2 angels
20 Harlequins
12 sterbai cories
1 BN plec

Good on you for re-homing them so promptly! :hooray:

I would also do something very similar to what Arobinson is suggesting.

But adjust it to whatever shoaling species takes your fancy (sticking to similar shaped fish such as serpae tetra, black widow tetra etc)

And whichever bottom dwellers. My vote would be for Sterbai Cory aswell if you're going with corys.

As for a plec...I luuuurve the Leopard Peckoltia (L008) ! Not sure how often you'd see it, but they are really really pretty.

Thought I'd give an update
Tank stats now perfect
Ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 20

tanks occupants are now
1 x angelfish
1 x carp (which is a stunted koi - with gill curl)

I am away on holiday on friday so these two fishes will keep the tank ticking over till my return - both are then destined for new homes
My plan is to then completely revamp the tank into a malawi set up
Any advice on this would be great

I am hopefully going to attempt to do a diary of pics of the whole process

Malawis aren't my area at all. So I can't help on stocking n the such.

However I do know that 40gal is considered the very min for a malawi set-up without severely limiting your stocking.

I think posting in the old world (I think they're old world..?) cichlid section is you best bet.

Post tank dimensions and how many gals it is.
Perhaps post some species that you like the look of and that are 'suitable'.
Then the experts can tell you if they're actually compatible or not. :)
