Hey guys, I work in a LPS and today had a customer come in looking for a new Oscar, he didn't want any of the small ones we had so we ordered in a 12cm one that will be getting picked up in a weeks time.

Now he has a large tank, over 600L I believe which already has a few Clown and Pakistani loaches. I know that theses are good with Oscars as does he, he's also picking up a few Silver Dollars when he comes back for Oscar.

Now he didn't get it yet, but I recommended that he could keep a chocolate cichlid (Hypselecara temporalis) with the Oscar, (I said I would check compatibility first!) would this be ok? I figured as they are both similarly sized and the Oscar is larger than the Chocolate he was looking at they would be ok, is this alright or should I take back my suggestion?

yes and no.....it depends on the individual fish...say to him to try it and if doesnt work to return the fish and change it....i sucsessfully keep my two oscars both well over 10inches with a 10inch jag,a 6inch severum,a 5-6inch female jack dempsey,a 5-6inch vieja biff,a 20 something inch gibbicep<sailfin plec>,a 5inch birchir,2 4-5inch bala sharks,5inch hoplo catfish.............the only mild aggro is with the oscar and jag,,,,,,,they are in a 150us gallon tank,,,5ft/2ft/2ft,,,,i will soon be upgrading but this has been for about a year now :good:
then theres a friend who had a 8inch oscar alone then added resently a 6inch bala shark and the oscar hates it....its allways better to get all juvis together and lots and lots of hiding places :good: heres my tank

nelly you have almost exactly the same tank i've been wanting for a long time.  :good: so i'd just like to tell you that i'm jealous and i hate you for showing me how awesome my dream tank looks when i can't have it. :D :p lol

as for the topic at hand...i agree with nelly. it's all about the fish's personality. all you can do is tell your customer to try it.

Thanks both for the replies :) I will do just that, tell him to try it and bring him back if it doesn't work out. :good:
