I have had my 110 litre aquarium for a about 3 months, I have 1 betta, 2 plecos, 4 sailfin mollies, 2 rock shrimp, 1 guppy and 5 rummy nose tetras. I was wondering what kind of colourful fish i can get that wont cause any problems. I have been looking at clown loaches, rams and loads of other cool looking fish in my local shop but i just wanna know what my options are. I'm not really looking to get anything smaller than about 3 inches as i would like some bigger fish in the tank. any comments will be appreciated.
thanks

Welcome to the forum Billvyx.
In a tank that small, the clown loaches will end up too big for the tank. Depending on what species of pleco you have, even one is too much for a tank that size. Some of the plecos get to as much as 2 feet long. The rest of your fish look like the beginnings of a nice community tank. Some nice schooling fish that would work with what you already have are neons , cardinals or black neons. A half dozen of any of them would be a nice addition.

Agree with oldman here, we need to know what type of plecs you have?

Also clown loaches grow way too big and need min of 350L

How about some nice bright swordtails? they are a peaceful beginners fish which are fairly easy to look after. I've just 2 today for my community tank and they are very very bright orange.

The plecs i have are just common plecos but a friend of mine said if they get too big he will take them off my hands.
all the fish sugested look pretty nice. any more suggestions will be great. if possible i would like to get something bigger than the little tetras, something more like 3-5 inches, but if thats not a good idea then i will defo get some little guys. thanks for the help, i didn't realise people would get back to me so quickly. Its nice to get advice from people who know what they're talking about as i am a beginner.

ive been looking at rainbow fish today, they are quite large and colourfull..... im tempted :good:

Yes the common plecs WILL get too large, they grow to around 18-20"

You'll have to becareful what you put in the tank with the betta in there, is it a male or female?

Andy

If you are looking for nice colorful fish in a moderately larger size, I like the idea of the swordtails that can be bought in any number of colors or similarly platies are nice if you get at least a trio and preferably more than 2 females to each male.

my fighter is a male and is really peaceful, he just swims around all day and keeps himself to himself.
just looked at some pics of rainbow fish and they really are beautiful once they're adults, may pick some up on tuesday.
swordtails and platy also look like they would fit in nicely in my aquarium. I am now thinking instead of clown loaches i could buy some sucking loaches or kuhli loaches in a few months. :good:

Forget the sucking loaches. Chinese algae eaters, as we call them in the US, are known to latch on to fish and eat their slime coat once they get older. If you like that basic look and want help with algae, get a Siamese algae eater instead. They are not likely to attach to fish and eat the slime coat and they continue to like algae as they get older. Another nice small algae eater is the otocinclus. You could google and find a picture of them fairly easily. The only problem with an oto is that it really needs algae to survive and people often end up with too many for the algae that they have to supply them enough to eat. Far too many of them die of starvation to suit me.

Agree with oldman again here.

Also, whatever you think of going for I would ask advice on here first because of the betta. Its not just the betta's temperament you have to think about but the fact that betta's are prone targets for many fin nipping fish.
