Advice bristlenose

[Elephant nose 41]

Hi i have a very bossy bristlenose plec in my 120 litre tank, he's chasing my bottom feeders and harassing them. I only have my elephant nose and congo tetra tank but not sure he'll do ok in there? As I feed mainly meat, i can put veggies in for him. That's my only worry as I know the elephant noses won't bother him. Has anyone put their bristle nose into a tank that's primarily eats meat?

In truth i'd find a new home for him - the problem isn't meat - bns eat more meat then people realize. However the elphant nose really is a fish that deserves special treatment and pure water - not some dirty kranky old bn who can't leave folks alone.

Btw usually when a bn harass other fishes in the fashion you describe it is because he's hungry and not getting enough food.

My BN male was food aggressive too, but they are omnivores - heavier on the herbivore side. I would limit their access to the meatier foods.
Also agree with the above, most plecos are heavy waste producers, especially wood raspers as their diet isn't very efficient so its not well digested.

There are plecos that are carnivores, the inspector pleco is smaller and a meat eater if you want a pleco in the tank.
If you have the BN for algae, I would look at ottos or snails instead.

If your bn is a male and he doesn't have a cave you can try to give him one whether it be artificial or a piece of driftwood that is shaped right. Also bn need drift wood though they are not as dependent on it as true wood eaters like flash pleco.

Many BN are Aufwuks feeders according to Ingo Seidel in his book on L-catfishes. It is one of the very few fish books I actually own.

Diet: In this genus there are both highly specialized Aufwuchs-feeders and omnivores that should be fed not only on vegetables but also on animal foods. The majority of species are not suitable for heavily planted aquaria with delicate plant species as they will eat the latter.

I love plecos just something about them I find interesting. He has a cave and wood, ive kept them before. My elephant nose tank had a tiger pleco until it passed last year.
