Hey Guys!

Been thinking last few weeks about getting an external filter for my Aquarium.
It's a Fluval Duo Deep 600.

What are the advantages of an External Filter?
The filter I'm using now is pretty good and is a fluval U1 I think.

So come on guys! What are the advantages of External Filters?

Thanks guys!

they may be quieter, cause i have a filter that hangs over the back and it sounds like some man with a large bladder is relieving in my tank.

my dad has one for a saltwater, some fluval. very quiet. but i think externals tend to be more expensive

the main thing I can think of is that the room that the internal takes will be free.......

They are more efficient, very quiet ro run and easy to clean and dont take up your tank space. You can also add polishing pads to make your water crystal clear as it sieves out even the tinyest of particals. You just flip the switches which disconnects it from the pipes and carry it to the sink to clean - no mess no water everywhere. Also it has a high capacity of filter media and usually higher turnover of the fish tank water which results in better water quality.

Some common Internal's get restricted to 1000lph like the Fluval U4. Externals can go way beyond this.
And they don't take any precious space up inside the tank like Internals.

If you've got the Fluval U1 what size is your tank???

Ps guys you can't tell someone with a U range Fluval internal that a plus of another filter is that it's quiet - Fluval U's are silent!

I got an external a few weeks back and have never looked back, it's quieter, SO easy to open up and clean unlike internals, and more LPH.

Fluval U's are absolutely excellent in my opinion.

And mine. Having said that I'm considering getting an external too. I just like the idea of the easier cleaning and the fact I'd be able to have filter floss and really get my water sparkling. There's so many to choose from though.

Jon which one did you get? when you say quiet, how quiet?

Hello,

I'd go for an external filter and a UV steriliser...

Got them on all of my tanks.

My water has been beautifully clear since I got a Fluval 205 - would definatly recommend it!

ive got a u3 and cant fault it and its easy to clean with the fliptop and also has a few output settings along with the venturi valve its great so the only benifit i can see is that i will gain a little more space in the tank

Hello,

Yes you can buy external filters with built in UV. However the UV wattage tends to be low.. I'd go for a seperate UV unit.

Ebay is your friend here!!
