Hey everyone.

Dumb question but before I go out and buy one today,
Is there any advantage to having an airpump with a bubble stone in the Aquarium?

Thanks!

Yep, they look nice, they help oxygenate the water and some fish like to play in the bubbles lol. ^_^

Yeah they look nice, and most of the fish need one. If the fish likes higher temperatures, then in higher temperatures, the oxygen saturation goes down, and therefor, you need an air stone to help bring it up. Also current helps put oxygen in the water.

no tank needs an air pump (unless its running an air powered filter)...as long as there is some surface agitation then your tank will have enough oxygen...dont waste your money unless you like the aesthetic appeal.

the only way the pump oxygenates the water is by surface movement...the bubbles dont put any oxygen into the water...well maybe a little but not enough to make a difference

An air pump is recommended, and IMO an air pump can make a lot of surface movement if it is set up right. I would just buy one for the hell of it. I like mine because they make they tank look pretty.

an air pump may make a lot of surface movement...but so can a filter outlet...and then youve saved some money...but if you like the aesthetic appeal go for it :good:

A filter outlet makes a lot of movement depending on the water level. My water level even, if not over, the filter outlet, so mine does not create much agitation. But remember, I am using a HOB filter, canisters might be different, I have never used one.

My filter is coverd by water but the outlet still makes ripples in the water is this ok?

I can't get an airpump now til next week since I'm going away on Monday for a week for my BIRTHDAY!

An air pump is a very handy thing to have. If you have to set up a quarantine tank in a hurry, it can be used to run an inexpensive box filter. Just add some cycled media from your regular filter and you have a cloned tank.

I just got 2 5" disks from petco, and a huge petco brand airpump, rated for 212 gallons, for 24$.
It was a steal considering how much they sell for online.
