Hi guys, quick question here:

Q: Can I add fish then a few days later add a plant and/or air pump? Or is it best to add everything first, befor the fish? Or wouldnt it matter at all?

Maby a silly question, but best to ask! :good:

Thanks

Better to ask a silly question than to make a silly mistake!

You shouldn't have any problems in adding a plant or two / an airpump after introducing fish. If your planning a major piece of aquascaping then it may be worth holding off on adding the fish first as the may become a little stressed!

If I add water treatment today (for example), can I was a plant in tap water and put it in my tank? Would that be ok? There is no fish in the tank at the moment.

Tap water is only harmful to fish due to their being chlorine in it which can then affect the filter bacteria colony and may cause you to have a mini-cycle whilst the bacteria becomes restablished. If adding less then 10% of the water in the tank direct from the tap you should be fine provide you don't do it too often. The tap residue won't matter at all as its such a minute quantity and if adding plants and you don't want possible snails then dip the plants in a 1 part bleach to 10 parts water solution for 5 minutes this will clean the plants, then wash under the tap thoroughly and add to the tank. You can also age tap water to remove chlorine either by leaving it out in a an open bowl for 24 hours or boiling it for 4 hours will cause the chlorine to be released into the atmosphere.

If an addendum to Saltynay's advice is pardonable, aging water will remove chlorine but not, alas, chloramine, something more and more municipalities have been using, sneaky beggars...
Might want to phone your water board to find out if that's being used in, or is likely to be introduced to, your local water supply, just in case, as a special water conditioner might be required.
