As I mentioned in my earlier introduction, I'll be stocking my 25g tank over the next few weeks. I do have some ideas as to which fish I'd like to have, but there are several to choose from. Our local Petsmart has more than enough to confuse anyone so any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Below is a list of what's available.

White Cloud Mountain Minnow
Cherry Barb
Gouramis (Honey, Dwarf & Powder Blue)
Rasbora (harlequin & Scissortail)
Peppered Corys
Danios (Long fin & short)
Tetras (Bloodfin, Bleeding Heart, Glowlite & Black Neon)

+1 for Peppered Corys from me. I have some in my tank and they are fascinating to watch, especially when you do a water change!

Hi welcome to the forum :)

First things first - read the fish less cycling article in the beginners resource section :) Its a great way to set up a tank from scratch and cuts your risks with regards to fish death and disease at the start of the tank.

As for the fish you have available, the list is good and some nice fish on there but I wouldnt call it an amazing sellection of fish - do you have any other aquatics or pet shops near you?

In a 25 gallon tank with those fish available though I would do something like

3 Honey Gourami - 1 male 2 female (males have longer flowing dorsal fins)
8 Cherry Barbs
6 Bleeding Heart Tetras
8 Pepper Corydoras

Wills :)

I second this suggestion. I'm partial to the way Rasboras school personally, so I'd probably replace either the Cherrys or Bleeding Hearts with 10 Harlequin Rasboras, but it's really hard to argue with that stocklist.

I like that, but in my opinion I would gte rid of the tetras and barbs and get a bigger shoal of harlequin rasboras, 12-14. That would look good!

Currently reading up on cycling tanks, although I've never really had any trouble before. Knowledge doesn't hurt as they say. :good: Aquatic/pet shops are few and far between here. There are some, but they're scattered. I agree that it's a descent selection. There are other fish like cichlids and angels (which both interest me). Thing is, I don't see either working in a tank of the size that I have. If I wanted a cichlids tank, 2-3 maybe as they're shown to grow up to 6 inches. Angels would be better suited in a taller tank which is why I'm bummed at having to sell the other one that I had. :shout: Dwarf Rams would be sweet, but I doubt that they special order anything!

I really enjoyed having both of the Gouranis that are listed. Only had 2 males (not good), but I guess that I was one of the lucky few where they never really "fought." Unless I can find females elsewhere, none are available. Walmart did have some, but I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them at that place! From your suggestion, I've had experiences with all but the tetras. Cory's are a "must" and I'm leaning towards Harlequins and Black Neons instead. Of course, my main concern is over-stocking of the tank. it came with a QuietFlow 20 filtration system. Not the biggest in the world, but good enough for me. Would consider an upgrade if it allowed for a couple of extra fishies!

Some cichlids are available for this size tank something like cupid cichlids would work in 25g or laetacaras or apistogrammas are ideal. But quite rare so not sure how easy you would find them.

If you are happy with the list I proposed go for it :) Just swap the black neons for the bleeding heart tetras and swap the cherry barbs for the harlequins - small fish like that are quite interchangeable its down to what kind of fish you like :)
